Why Couples Choose House Boheme for a Personalized, Artistic Wedding Experience

When you walk through the grand entrance at House Boheme, past the rhododendron that frames the doorway, you're stepping into something we built from scratch. Not just a venue, but a living canvas.

Private Party Venue

We're a jewelry designer, a photographer, and a pianist. We created this 22 acre mountain retreat in Rutherfordton because we wanted a space where couples could shape their wedding around who they actually are. That means working directly with us, the people who salvaged the tiger wood from our bridal suite bathroom floor to build the speakeasy bar downstairs. The people chose every vintage Moroccan rug, some over 60 years old, and placed each hand blown glass piece from artisans in Guadalajara.

What Makes a Wedding Experience Truly Personal and Artistic

Personalization isn't about adding your initials to cocktail napkins. It's about working with people who understand why you chose this place, who can adapt every element to your vision, and who've designed spaces flexible enough to hold whatever story you want to tell. At House Boheme, that means collaborating with the artists who created this sanctuary from the ground up, accessing creative services that connect seamlessly with the property, and using spaces that invite you to break away from traditional wedding formulas entirely.

You Work With the Artists Who Built This Place

There's no event manager you meet once and never see again. Our two on site vendor liaisons are part of the team that designed House Boheme. When you're planning your ceremony on the 4 acre meadow or your reception in the Peninsula Garden, you're talking with people who know why the Italian wrought iron glass doors on the bridal suite balcony open that particular way, and how the light moves across the flagstone patio in the basement as the day shifts.

That matters when you're trying to time your vows for golden hour or wondering where your grandmother can sit during cocktails. We've watched hundreds of ceremonies unfold here. We can tell you which corner of the covered patio catches the mountain breeze, and where to position your table so the reclaimed timber framing creates the best backdrop for toasts.

In House Florals and Photography Mean Everything Connects

You can bring your own creative team, absolutely. But we offer in house florals and photography because we've learned that when the same artistic vision runs through every element, your wedding feels cohesive in a way that's hard to replicate.

Our florist understands how tropical plants look against the earth tones and terracottas throughout the house. Our photographer knows that the walk out patio has those large sliding double doors that frame the mountains, and that the bridal suite's floor length mirror catches afternoon light in a very specific way.

When your flowers echo the blueberry bushes in the garden and your photos capture the handmade willow furniture exactly as we intended it, the whole day feels intentional. I like art.

The Spaces Themselves Become Part of Your Story

We designed House Boheme with high ceilings, walls of windows, and modern timber framing because we wanted architecture that could hold 150 guests for a full celebration or create intimacy for 20 people exchanging vows by the private waterfall. Every space has a purpose, but you decide how to use it.

Some couples start with a ceremony in the Open Field, move guests to the Mountain View Patio for cocktails among the brass string lights and velvet lanterns, then finish with dinner in the Peninsula Garden where the 12,000 square foot grass area gives you room to arrange our ten poplar wood farmhouse tables however you want. Others flip it entirely. One couple had their reception in the basement, where the flagstone patio flows right outside and the speakeasy bar sets a completely different mood.

You're not locked into a timeline or a predetermined flow. The chef's kitchen, the living and dining areas, even the Zen room with floor cushions on the upper level, they're all available for you to shape around your vision.

Details That Reflect Craft and Intention

We set your tables with ceramic dinnerware from Pineapple Studios, a local artist collective, because we believe the objects you touch during your celebration should have been made by hand. Your guests toast with hand blown Moroccan glassware and barware crafted by women in Guadalajara. They sit on vintage German beer tables or our matching poplar wood benches.

These aren't decorative choices. They're part of the experience. When you're eating dinner under market umbrellas in the garden or lounging on teak furniture near the babbling brook, every element tells you someone thought about this. Someone cared enough to source linen napkins and reclaim wood instead of buying new.

That's what couples mean when they describe House Boheme as a masterpiece of creativity and tranquility, or say that every corner whispers of artistic vision. You feel the hands that built this place.

Sustainability and Inclusivity as Core Values

We avoid single use plastics. We repurpose reclaimed wood throughout the property, not because it's trendy but because it honors the materials and the land. This is Appalachia. We pay attention to the Indigenous stewards who cared for these mountains long before we arrived, and we try to maintain that same respect.

House Boheme welcomes everyone. Your wedding here isn't just an event, it's a statement that love in all its forms deserves a space this beautiful. We've hosted couples from every background, and we'll keep creating an environment where all people feel safe and celebrated.

A Wedding That Feels Like Retreat

You get access to the bridal suite and primary suite starting at 10 a.m. on your wedding day. That's not just for photos. It's so you can slow down.

The bridal suite has that spa bathroom, the walk out balcony overlooking the mountains, and a Sonos audio system if you want to play music while you're getting ready. Downstairs, the groom's suite has its own lounge space. There's a catwalk overlook where your wedding party can take a breath between moments. We built in these pauses because rushing through your own wedding feels wrong.

The two additional bedrooms on the upper floor sleep five more people, and the honeymoon suite with its clawfoot tub and lofted ceilings can host another couple. Twelve people can stay here overnight, which means your closest friends and family are waking up with you, making coffee in the chef's kitchen, and walking the forested trails before anyone else arrives.

It changes the energy of the day. You're not performing a wedding, you're living it.

Technical Flexibility Without Compromising Beauty

We have multiple power and water hookups across the property, catering access through the garage and concrete pad, and two acres dedicated to on site parking. There's an ADA compliant restroom on the main level patio, Wi Fi throughout, and solar ground lighting that activates as the sun sets.

These practical elements exist so your caterer, your DJ, your planners can do their work without improvising. But you won't see generators or electrical panels in your photos. We designed the infrastructure to disappear into the landscape, the same way the warm patio lighting and brass string fixtures feel like they grew here.

You can host rehearsals and private photo sessions on the property, which gives your photographer time to find the angles that matter, the spot near the wood stove hearth on the covered patio or the view through those Italian glass doors.

What Couples Tell Us After

Ben Haney said House Boheme provides an experience, not just a space. That's what we hear again and again. People remember the way the mountains looked from the meadow, the texture of the vintage Moroccan rugs under their feet, the sound of the babbling brook during cocktail hour.

Exclusive Event Venue

They remember working with us directly, knowing the people serving them were the same people who chose the tropical plants cascading through the rooms and decided where the fringed umbrellas should go in the garden. They remember feeling like their wedding wasn't just happening at a venue, it was woven into a place that was built for moments exactly like theirs.

That's what personalized means here. Not a monogram or a custom menu, though you can have those too. It's the feeling that your wedding is singular because the space itself refuses to be anything ordinary, and because we're here with you, adjusting and creating and making sure every detail connects back to your story.

Start Building Your Vision

If you're looking for a wedding that reflects your values, your aesthetic, and your willingness to step away from tradition when it doesn't serve you, we'd love to talk. We're not trying to convince you House Boheme is right for everyone. We're offering you 22 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a team of artists who will work with you from the first conversation to the last dance, and a setting that's been called a sanctuary, a masterpiece, and a living work of art.

FAQs

Can we bring our own florist and photographer, or do we have to use your in house services?
You're welcome to bring your own creative team. We offer in house florals and photography because they're designed with deep knowledge of the property, but the choice is completely yours. Many couples mix both, using our florals for ceremony arrangements and bringing their own photographer, or vice versa.

How many guests can you realistically accommodate for a seated dinner?
We can host 150+ guests for large outdoor weddings and receptions. Our ten poplar wood farmhouse tables each seat 8 to 12 people, and the Peninsula Garden's 12,000 square foot grass area gives you flexibility for tent placement and additional seating configurations. For intimate ceremonies, the property works beautifully for smaller groups as well.

What's included in a wedding booking at House Boheme?
Your booking includes access to all indoor and outdoor spaces, the full collection of furnishings listed in our pricing guide (farmhouse tables, benches, vintage German beer tables, handmade willow patio furniture, brass string lighting, velvet lanterns), artist made ceramic dinnerware, hand blown Moroccan glassware, barware, cutlery, linen napkins and tablecloths, tropical plants, vintage Moroccan rugs, and two on site vendor liaisons for coordination. You also get access to the bridal suite and primary suite starting at 10 a.m. on your wedding day, plus the ability to host rehearsals and private photo sessions on the property.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Yes, we have an ADA compliant restroom on the main level patio. The property includes multiple outdoor spaces, and we work with couples during planning to ensure guest comfort and accessibility throughout the event.
